The Department of Dental Technology and Oral Hygiene is the only unit in Mongolia that trains dental technician and oral hygienists. It is believed that the foundation for the training of dental technicians was laid in 1938, when dental technology was introduced in Mongolia. The official technician course started in 1961, and in 1965, the Dental Technician class was opened in the Medical Secondary School, and it was closed in 1990 after continuing to train technicians every year.

In 1998, the Dental Technician class was re-opened. Since 2009, School of Dentistry has started training oral hygienists, and in 2017, the current Department of Dental Technology and Oral Hygiene was established by merging the dental technology and oral hygiene training by the order of the director of MNUMS.

The current staff members of the department /2022-2023/ are Bilguun.E, MDS, Head of Department, Batsukh.Sh Ph.D, senior lecturer, Delgertsetseg.J Ph.D senior lecturer, Bat-Erdene.M MDS lecturer, Erdenebulgan.P Ph.D lecturer, Ts. Sodkhonchimeg MDS lecturer.

With a total of 95 credit hours, successfully accredited 2 times by the Mongolian National Council for Education Accreditation (MNCEA), dental technicians with a Higher Diploma Program, and a total of 101 credit hours, with a Higher Diploma Program of Oral hygienists, respectively, basic education course and professional education course, more than 50 teachers are working together to prepare specialized courses.
